Today was a 9.5 miles walk from Dowdeswell to Birdlip (who knew that birds had lips?) and it was a glorious, sunny day for walking. The views just seem to get better each day!
We walked from Langet (our B&B) up through the woods filled with Ramsons (a type of wild garlic with beautiful white blossoms) and bluebells. It was sunny but chilly so we wore gloves and hats while we wandered up the trail.
OK, Grandchildren....what animals are these??? No, the ones on the left are not pigs. We came across these intersting cows as we neared Birdlip this afternoon. They have very woolly coats (kind of like sheep) and the white stripe on their middles---kind of like a pig! The ones on the right are snails. We came across an area of the trail today where there were all colors and varieties of snails---white ones, striped ones, yellow ones, etc.
This is a well-known landmark on Leckhampton Hill known as "Chimney Rock." My cousin, Yvonne, told us that she and her brothers and sister used to call it their rock...so maybe it should be re-named "Apperley Rock." It sits on the edge of the hill overlooking the sprawling city of Cheltenham.
This should give you just a little idea of the plants and greenery that we see as we walk along. We bought a small book on wildflowers of Great Britain at Hailes Abbey and it has come in handy as we try to put names to the flowers we see. But I don't remember what the two flowers here are....maybe someone out there can find out for us! By the way, we don't have a clue what the black round clump on the log is. We have come across these several times now. So if any of you find out what it is be sure to let us know!
